These wellbeing self-help tools and resources for AUT students cover a range of issues and link you to helplines and websites for more information and help. Taking a moment to understand how you're feeling and to learn strategies to cope is an important part of developing resilience and skills to succeed at university.

Anxiety NZ

Anxiety NZ is based in St Lukes, Auckland, and has a team of registered and intern psychologists to provide treatment for people who experience anxiety, panic, phobias and depression, and they can support students to get funding for individual sessions through a disability allowance. They also run free peer support groups.

Just a Thought provides free online CBT courses to help manage symptoms and causes of depression and anxiety.

Depression.org has a wealth of information about the causes, symptoms and treatment of depression, and offers lots of practical advice and information about how to get support. They have trained counsellors available via a free helpline and text.

Lifeline Aotearoa

Lifeline Aotearoa offers support for people who are experiencing suicidal thoughts. They offer specialist counselling, and have resources to help people who are supporting a loved one with suicidal thoughts.

HELP

HELP offers support to survivors of sexual harm, whether it happened recently or in the past. They provide:

  • Crisis support: they can help you access medical treatment and emergency support if you are unsafe.
  • Justice services: they can offer advice and support at all stages of the process.
  • Therapy: they offer free support sessions
  • They also have heaps of information for the family and loved ones of the survivor.

Shakti is a national not-for-profit community organisation specialised in the area of women’s development, empowerment and domestic/ family violence intervention, prevention and awareness. It is a specialist provider of culturally competent support services for women, children and families of Asian, African and Middle Eastern origin.

SHINE

SHINE supports people who are experiencing domestic and intimate partner violence. They offer support and advocacy, non-violence and child safety workshops, and emergency accommodation for women and children escaping violence.

OutLine

OutLine is a national service that helps LGBTIQ+ New Zealanders access support, information and a sense of community. They provide

  • A free nationwide 0800 phone line and online chat support service staffed by trained volunteers
  • A transgender peer support service for trans and non-binary people in Auckland
  • Specialist face-to-face and Skype counselling exploring gender and sexuality for LGBTIQ+ people across Aotearoa

Miscarriage Support Auckland

Miscarriage Support Auckland provides advice regarding grieving and tips about helping others who have experienced miscarriage, books, helpful resources, personal stories, information for men, suggestions from health professionals and more.

Solace

Solace invites anyone affected by suicide loss to join their monthly meetings. They are a peer-support group using best practice support group process. All members have experienced loss by suicide and meetings are facilitated by those with a lived experience of bereavement by suicide. Solace provides a safe, empathetic place to share your experience and learn about grief and loss by suicide.

Youthline

Youthline offers limited free counselling sessions to under 25 year olds, and they also provide support with mentoring and gaining employment, and they have a number of community volunteering roles that can help build confidence, competence and community.
